Dr. A Thomas Maiolo

Dr. A Thomas Maiolo is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Before coming to the upstate in 1986, he worked at hospitals in Ohio and Florida. He had the unique opportunity in Florida to be one of the veterinarians for the Ringling Brothers Circus animal owners. He has worked on leopards, elephants, monkeys, and had a sick lion pup sleeping beside him at his home one night. His strangest case was an 18 foot python brought to him with a balance problem. Because of his length and weight, he was brought to the hospital in a shopping cart. The poor snake couldn't slither any longer because of his balance trouble. He would try to roll down the hall. He was returned to normal slithering after several days of treatment. I do not think that we will be presented with very many 18 foot python or sickly elephants, but if it can fit through my front door we are prepared.
